BLOG POST 11: The power of words

If you haven't watched JOKER yet, I recommend you watch it.

Rudyard Kipling quotes 'Words are the most powerful drug used by mankind... Not only do words infect, egotize, narcotize and paralyze, but they enter into and color the minutest cells of the brain'

If you've seen the movie Joker, you will remember Joaquin Phoenix leaving Gary alone after murdering Randall telling him just one line that strikes a chord within each one of us; 'Gary, you were the only one ever that was nice to me'. Arthur(Joaquin) was depressed with the cruelty of this world. He turned to every person he could for that one ray of kindness and people just found him mad and out of the world. Gary rarely spoke bad to Arthur. He himself being short statured was often mocked by everyone. He knew, how it felt like to be made fun of and criticized. Maybe that's why Gary never hurt Arthur.

Sometimes, even the most mentally sick person may just require a few words of kindness. Words that can give him/her a newer dimension to life. Our words can change a person for good or for bad. When we speak, it's extremely important that it is with empathy towards our fellow-beings. Words that encourage are always more essential. It's better to refrain from speaking if we have nothing good to say because our words can always leave a mark.
Words hold enormous power and have significant consequences. It must be used appropriately and with care as it can affect the emotional state of another human being.

"Just two weeks and we are done saving money for our brand new house", said Eva as she stacked each note carefully between the pages of her favourite collection of novels. Everyone who knew about the weird way she stored her money wondered why anyone would do this. But that never bothered Eva. For Eva and her mother, that money was the only solace to their dream mansion. Eva wanted her own big home where life would be undemanding and painless. They lived in an old dilapidated two-storey building. Any attempts to make repairs in that house was far-gone. The walls were chipped, ceilings were leaky and most of the pipes to the main drainage were fractured. This led to a lingering foul smell all around and inside the house. One sister for sale! One sister for sale! One crying and spying young sister for sale! I'm really not kidding, So who'll start the bidding? I just came across this poem and found it hilarious. You would wonder who would ever put their sister for sale! But I can totally relate. There was a certain time in my life where I too found my sister so annoying. Those compromises you have to make for everything you own in life is beyond endurance threshold. Sometimes it made me go nuts. I would be reading my textbook and she just pops into my room randomly, stands near my table and picks up a book she wishes to and then scribbles silly drawings on it. Of course, it's really sweet. Happy Realisation to myself! But back then, at primary school, how could you tolerate your social studies notebook being used for some stick figures?
