BLOG POST 32: A verse for the wall

 I love having quotes stuck on the walls of my home. Sometimes when I read a catchy line or verse from the book I'm reading, I just can't resist my urge to write it down and stick it on the wall. During times of distress or even happiness, some lines can give our hearts the courage, hope, and humility we require at that time. Our minds can't always think straight in this crazy little world. Sometimes we need words of encouragement to keep our boats afloat. Having quotes on the walls gives quick and easy access to what we may need.

One verse that even Jesus encourages us to stick on the doors or walls of our homes is from Deuteronomy 6:4-5 (NIV), which says "The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength."



To love the Lord with all our heart, soul, and strength, we must use the time, talents, energy and resources he bestowed upon us to serve him and do good in his name. Think about how we use the time and energy we have. Do we pray continually and attend church every Sunday? Do we keep aside some time from every day to speak with God, to rest our fears and anxieties with him? Do we speak with others about how great the work of the Lord is in our lives? Do we help and encourage others like good Christians? Do we focus on growing our faith in God?

Deuteronomy 6 emphasizes speaking this verse to our children, tying it on our hands and heads, or even hanging it on the doorframes and gates of our houses so that we never ever forget to love the Lord our god with all our hearts, souls and strengths. Such a mighty verse to adorn in our homes.

The Calm Waters

"Just two weeks and we are done saving money for our brand new house", said Eva as she stacked each note carefully between the pages of her favourite collection of novels. Everyone who knew about the weird way she stored her money wondered why anyone would do this. But that never bothered Eva. For Eva and her mother, that money was the only solace to their dream mansion. Eva wanted her own big home where life would be undemanding and painless. They lived in an old dilapidated two-storey building. Any attempts to make repairs in that house was far-gone. One sister for sale! One sister for sale! One crying and spying young sister for sale! I'm really not kidding, So who'll start the bidding? I just came across this poem and found it hilarious. You would wonder who would ever put their sister for sale! But I can totally relate. There was a certain time in my life where I too found my sister so annoying. Those compromises you have to make for everything you own in life is beyond endurance threshold. Sometimes it made me go nuts. I would be reading my textbook and she just pops into my room randomly, stands near my table and picks up a book she wishes to and then scribbles silly drawings on it. Of course, it's really sweet. Happy Realisation to myself! But back then, at primary school, how could you tolerate your social studies notebook being used for some stick figures?
